Going Knee to Knee William J Warner 9781629028934 Books

The book was written at the high school level and was overly repetitive. At several points it was factually incorrect or at a minimum not believable. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Going Knee to Knee William J Warner 9781629028934 Books Reviews

“Going Knee to Knee” is one of those books that packs a punch. The book gives the reader a very informative background in the use of the polygraph in many different crimes with equally different subjects. Each subject brings a new challenge for the polygraph examiner in the preparation for the exam and subsequent interrogation. Bill Warner aka Cy Donovan takes the reader through various crime scenarios and explains how the polygraph was used effectively in each case. As each story develops, Bill sets the stage and explains in details how “Cy” prepares for each unique subject. Bill’s vast experience as a FBI Special Agent and polygraph examiner makes him uniquely qualified to explain the effective use of the polygraph. The book is fascinating and is hard to put down once you start. In the Chapter “Straight Talk About Liars” Bill brings all the lessons learned throughout the book and his successful FBI career as “Cy” addresses a new agent class on the use of the polygraph within the FBI. This Chapter is an extremely informative overview of the effective use of the polygraph and is worth the read by itself. I highly recommend the book for those who have an interest in the use of the polygraph or for the law enforcement professional.
I found "Going Knee to Knee" to be quite facinating--the book takes you inside the room and introduces its readers to "real life" investigations through the science of polygraph-which the book leads you through step by step. I found myself hardly able to put it down--wanting to read to the end of each chapter. And wondering where he would take us in the next one. I am looking forward to his next book. I would also like to say--I have known William "Bill" Warner since we were in grade school--and more recently re-connected after he come home for a book signing at our hometown library. Bill did not choose a easy career--being exposed to and interacting with those who have committed unspeakable acts--but he never losing sight of questing for the truth in each case-which is so evident in the stories he has told us in "Going Knee to Knee" . And on a personal note-Bill has never lost his sense of humor and compassion for others. If you are in town where Bill is book signing--I am sure you would enjoy meeting him.
I always thought that being a polygraph (lie-detector) examiner meant asking a series of standard questions and then looking at the results to determine whether the person was telling a lie or not. This fascinating book is a compilation of extremely interesting real-life interrogations from the career of agent William Warner, one of the FBI's top polygraphers. Mr. Warner shows through these stories how an experienced examiner can get criminals to confess. Some of these stories are about really horrible crimes so this is definitely not a book for young kids, but for everyone else I strongly endorse it. The stories tell what really happens in post-crime FBI interrogations and how smart (or usually how stupid) criminals really are. The book is an easy read and hard to put down once you start. It's great to read behind-the-scenes real stories about real people and how it's really done. Great Book! Let's see some more from you Mr. Warner.
Warner’s book, Going Knee to Knee, tells a fascinating and rare inside story of an FBI agent’s specialized operations. As a former FBI Special Agent with sixteen years as a polygraph examiner, Warner captures the suspense of bringing perpetrators to justice through the voice of Cy Donovan a dedicated Special Agent and top polygraph examiner.

Warner’s writing style allows the reader to be on the scene of each case. The little known subject of polygraph examinations is far more complex than the typical reader’s knowledge garnered from TV episodes. Warner builds the story of each case seamlessly as he educates the reader on the importance of the interview and interrogation process that precedes the actual hookup of the polygraph equipment. The villains, convinced they can beat the polygraph, are always surprised when they fail. The reader enjoys the “gotcha” euphoria along with Cy Donovan as he and the polygraph win.

Going Knee to Knee has broad appeal to the curiosity of readers who enjoy suspense, detective and FBI stories, and even biography and memoir.
Although I seldom read novels involving crime, I enjoyed this book because the writer had such a depth of knowledge on the subject. A controvesial subject such as polygraph interrogation needs a writer of this caliber. Years of experience bring a wealth of creditalbility and detail to the stories behind the statistics.
Cy is a complex character. He's an honorable man of compassion and dedication often sitting knee to knee with those most of us would not want to face. The amount of time and determination needed to bring about a successful investigation was a surprise to me. The men who do this kind of work must make terrific sacrifices as do their families. The book opened my eyes to the debt we owe these men.
Mr. Warner's writing style is well focused. The plot moves forward at a steady pace even when the interrigation is painstakingly slow. I felt his decorum and genteel use of language standing between me, the reader, and the suspect just as he and others in law enforcement stand for all of us daily. The descriptions are full of color and I could feel the tension in every room, every character, and every sentence. Not one word was wasted. Make no mistake, this is no glossy detective floss... this book will put you there, knee to knee.
The book was written at the high school level and was overly repetitive. At several points it was factually incorrect or at a minimum not believable. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
